Certified French translation – how to get the best value

Certificates and Certified French Translation
For many new to the world of translation, it may seem daunting to choose between an agency and a freelancer. Both providers play great roles in different areas of the industry. However, for certificates freelancers provide BY FAR the best value for money!

Generally, customers looking to have certificates translated send 1 to 2 pages of text. This includes marriage, birth, death, university and qualification certificates. Depending on the reason for the translation, customers may request a “certified translation”. This is when the translator confirms that it is a true translation of the original text, and usually stamps it and provide a letter of confirmation. These are often small jobs (but can be time consuming in terms of producing professional formatting). Freelancers are the perfect choice for this type of smaller job because we don’t have the overheads that agencies do. The fee doesn’t have to be bumped up to cover the agency + translator duo (most agencies send translations out to freelancers).

My fees for certificates typically range from £25 to £49 (no VAT applicable). For comparison, I sent a friend’s simple university certificate to an agency for a quote. It came back at a cracking £75 before VAT and any certification.

No matter who you choose, quality should always be the priority. It’s wise to pick a well-established freelancer or agency with a visible profile, qualifications and good experience, recommendations and reviews. Don’t always believe what you read. If you have any doubts, ask for more information. Quality counts for job and passport applications – it’s the difference between getting your application accepted or rejected (a waste of time, money and potentially missed holidays etc.). Personally, I prefer to work with a provider that has a working telephone number and a physical address (not a hosted office address, and run from we-don’t-know-where).

At Translation & Secretarial Services, I can offer top quality certificates at affordable prices as well as:
